We are seeking a confident, adaptable, and solutions-focused Assistant Manager to join our dynamic HR Shared Services team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced HR professional who thrives in a fast-paced, high-volume environment and is ready to take the next step in their career.
The role will involve managing a significant and varied caseload, acting as a key escalation point for the team, and ensuring the consistent delivery of high-quality service across a range of HR processes. You will also play a vital role in supporting the leadership of the team—stepping in to cover managerial responsibilities, including reporting, team oversight, and decision-making, during periods of absence. This role is ideal for someone who combines strong operational HR knowledge with the ability to lead, influence, and drive continuous improvement in a shared services setting.
You will join an energetic team, responsible for working with both retail colleagues and managers in 750 stores nationwide, providing generalist HR telephone advice for a high-volume case load.
The day-to-day role will:
- Advise, support, and guide on all aspects of the colleague life cycle including employee relations, employment law, contracts, disciplinary, grievances, sickness, absence, and performance management
- Coach and develop a team of Shared Service Advisors in their day-to-day activities in a fast-paced working environment, Act as a trusted escalation point for, providing guidance and solutions on complex or sensitive cases
- Support the HR Shared Services Manager in the oversight of day-to-day operations, identifying process improvements and ensuring service excellence
- Step into line management responsibilities during periods of absence, including team supervision, workload prioritisation, and decision-making
- Contribute to service reporting, performance metrics, and audit activities to ensure compliance and operational transparency
To be successful, you’ll have:
- Experience in a high-volume HR shared services or operations environment
- Worked within a commercial setting which places emphasis on a pragmatic approach to finding solutions
- Up to date working knowledge of employment legislation and be able to practically apply HR best practice
- The ability to multi-task in a fast paced, reactive environment with multiple stakeholders at any one time
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, confident using in house tracking and reporting systems
- A friendly, supportive, and empathetic approach, but equally, a willingness to challenge or question, when necessary, while making informed, fact-driven decisions
- Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, or support team members, with readiness to step into leadership when needed
- Ability to identify and action improvements to current processes and policies to increase efficiencies
- A working knowledge of GDPR and Right to Work
