We have an exciting new opportunity for a Nights Transport Shift Manager join our transport team at the B&M Distribution Centre in Bedford!
Responsible for ensuring an efficient Transport shift end to end whilst achieving agreed service and cost KPI’s. To provide an effective and reliable service to stores whilst meeting all legal requirements.  Through positive behaviour and attitude, conduct and communication, drive, develop and lead a successful team of team managers, admin and Transport colleagues providing effective leadership, motivation, training and development. Drive continuous improvement across area of responsibility.

Key Accountabilities in the role:

  • Lead, motivate, inspire and challenge your team to deliver consistently high results and help drive maximum productivity and service to our stores.
  • Ensure your management team have regular reviews and PDP's to ensure any training identified is specific and meets the current and future needs of the operation.
  • Engage in the recruitment process and control labour costs using workforce planning tools and support Team Managers in managing resources, to maximise productivity whilst minimising costs.
  • Lead by example, ensuring a safe and efficient work place is maintained at all times, carry out incident and accident investigations and escalate where necessary.
  • To work in a team based environment where all Managers and Colleagues work together for the good of the business.
  • To ensure the high levels of store service and productivity KPIs are achieved and maintained consistently.
  • Consistent communication with all relevant departments to assist in the running of your shift from all perspectives, HR, Health and Safety, Maintenance, Trade Union Reps, DC and external bodies.All exceptions to service reported to Retail in a timely manner in order to manage expectation.
  • Ensure that all Transport operational SOP's are followed.
  • Be responsible for the direct passing of information to other Shift Manager and ensure you facilitate a smooth handover between shifts.
  • Ensure that the Transport H&S standards are maintained and continuously improved.
  • Ensure compliance and management of all company policies (i.e. grievance, disciplinary, diversity, etc).
  • Prioritise and manage the allocation of appropriate resources and commitment of staff to the achievement of all KPIs and shift targets.
  • Control of defect process ensuring repair and sign off to enable full auditable history.
  • Ensure vehicles/trailers are presented to the maintenance provision in a timely manner to ensure compliance at all times.
  • Capture and reporting of all motor vehicle accidents to include timely reporting in order to assist insurer in managing third party costs.

Skills/Experience required:

  • Ability to co-ordinate busy workloads in a reactive environment
  • Strong transport practice knowledge preferably in a large operation
  • Open minded and able to embrace and influence change
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Excellent Planning and Organisational skills
  • Able to achieve results by setting high standards and committing to clear objectives
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills and able to establish logical practical solutions
  • Computer literate with good numeric skills
  • Drive, motivation and positive can-do attitude is a must!
